The Hungarian Ring – The Race

The Hungarian Formula 1 Grand Prix at Hungaroring race track

The Route

The race track is located North-East of Budapest. It is actually very close to the city center – around 25 km, roughly 30 min drive by car. The problem with such events is that you have to expect more than 400 000 people trying to reach the same destination at the same time like you. Which is why we started our way 3 hours before the race start. On the highway it was not that crowded but once we got near the race track there were a lot of cars, busses, taxies and what not trying to get to the parking areas. We passed the 5 km queue of cars by going on the “Hungaroring utca” (see the map on the left). Nice move! Then we entered the venue and managed to sneak through the crowd to get to our grandstand around 50 min before the race start. Just enough time to grab refreshing drinks and have some rest in the tree shades before take our seats in the grandstand. Phew!

Silver 5 Grandstand view

Our seats were at the Silver 5 grandstand. Probably not the best place to watch the whole grand prix as there was no sight of the main straight and the action during overtaking at its the end. But the view of the cars was fantastic! Especially for someone who sees the Formula 1 cars for the first time! The cars were passing by with only 200+ km/h, so people can take a good look at them. Оn the main straight though, this would have been more difficult with speed over 300 km/h…
